What started with foundations laid by MIT researchers is now a full-blown technology forecasting system.
GetFocus was born from two parallel journeys that converged on a single, powerful idea.
GetFocus’ founders, Jard van Ingen and Thijs van de Poll, brought their unique skills and shared vision together to overcome the innovator's dilemma.
With a background in business economics and a master's in intellectual capital management, Jard understood the critical need for better strategic foresight to guide investment.
Thijs’ pivot to econometrics gave him the quantitative skills to build the predictive engine needed to model the future of technology forecasting.
The catalyst was Jard’s 2018 Master's thesis at Volvo Cars AI Department. There, he witnessed firsthand how global leaders relied on the guesswork of "oracles" in-house experts whose forecasts were based on their intuition. This sparked the question: could invention data predict the future? Their research proved it could, revealing a simple principle: the fastest-improving technology always wins. This improvement rate, a signal hidden in invention data, was the key. Armed with this "digital crystal ball," they founded GetFocus in 2019 to replace guesswork with data-driven foresight and build the future, faster.
